The Chinese giant flying squirrel lives in high mountain forests of western China. Orange patches behind the ears and a long, flattened tail are among the features described for the species.
It has orange to yellow-brown patches behind the ears. Its tail is nearly as long as its body, with fur that spreads to the sides, giving the tail a flattened outline.
It uses subalpine conifer and mixed forests, sheltering in tree hollows, rock cavities, or nests in trees. It hides by day and is active at night, gliding as it searches for food.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
