A tanager described from Corrientes in northeastern Argentina. Seasonal records also occur in Paraguay and Brazil, but a 2021 study identified the Iberá Wetlands as its only known breeding area.
The adult male has a slate-grey forehead and crown, dark brown face and throat, olive-brown back and rump, pale yellowish-brown to cinnamon underparts, and white in the wings.
Its only known breeding area is flooded lowland grassland in the Iberá Wetlands, where nests are supported by marsh plants. A 2016-2018 study estimated cumulative nest survival at 0.16 and identified predation and strong winds among the main causes of failure.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
