This hummingbird is recorded in the highlands of the Sibundoy area of Colombia. Male and female throat and tail patterns differ, and males defend feeding areas.
In the local account, the male has bright bronze-green upperparts and a diffuse iridescent dark-green throat patch. The female has a tawny belly densely dotted with green. Their tail patterns also differ.
The account places it at forest edges between sub-páramo and páramo. Males defend feeding territories with visual and vocal displays, may take nectar from flowers too long for their bill, and also catch flying insects.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
