The Blue-bearded Helmetcrest was recorded in the highlands of Colombia’s Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. During a 2015 survey, observers saw it feeding at flowering plants.
A comparative description cited in the 2015 paper notes a glittering purplish-blue beard narrowly bordered in white, a dull green sheen on the sides of the crown, mottled brown-and-whitish underparts and a relatively short crest.
In March 2015, observers recorded three birds in small patches on steep slopes. They clung to vegetation or hovered while feeding at flowering herbs and shrubs.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
