This cotinga occurs in montane areas of southern Venezuela, Guyana, and northern Brazil. Its diet is thought to consist mainly, perhaps entirely, of fruit; it sometimes joins mixed-species flocks.
The male has a red crescent-shaped chest band, dark gray-green upperparts, and rufous-brown wings and tail. The female is duller above, with yellowish-white underparts streaked black. Juveniles show conspicuous spots on the upperparts.
It inhabits moist montane forest at about 1,300–2,250 m. It probably feeds only on fruit and sometimes joins mixed-species flocks.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
