This small shrew lives on Sumatra. Its black dorsal fur contrasts with a gray belly, and specimens have been recorded on several mountains in western Sumatra.
Fine, dense black fur covers the back, while the underside is paler gray. The ears and tail are also dark.
A 2013 survey collected specimens at 1,359 and 1,458 m on Mount Singgalang. The consulted sources do not establish its diet, activity pattern, or ability to use disturbed forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
