The Lucifer Hummingbird occurs mainly in central and northern Mexico. It hovers while taking nectar from flowers.
Males have a green forehead and purple iridescence at the sides of the neck, bordered by white. Females have a curved bill, lack the iridescence, and are light brown around the breast and throat.
It drinks nectar while hovering and also eats spiders and small insects. Males may defend nectar plants, while females defend areas around their nests.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
