The Gough Moorhen is an island rail with short wings and no ability to fly. It is native to Gough Island and was introduced to Tristan da Cunha in 1956.
Its head and neck are dull black, its back brownish black, and its underside slaty black. The red frontal shield and bill base contrast with the yellow bill tip; its yellow legs show reddish coloring.
A study of four introduced birds on Tristan found mostly vegetation in their stomachs, along with spiders, earthworms, and house-mouse remains in some birds.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
