The Red-throated Cliff Swallow is a small swallow with a black and glossy blue-black back and rufous markings around the face. It catches flying insects in flocks and nests in colonies near cliffs and gorges.
The forehead and back are black, and the shoulder feathers shine blue-black. Pale edges on the neck and back feathers give a streaked look, while the ear coverts are rufous.
Its flight is slow with frequent glides, and it often feeds on flying insects in flocks. It may nest in colonies of hundreds and roosts communally, packed close together.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
