This small tyrant flycatcher uses rocky slopes and lake margins in the high Andes. It searches for arthropods on the ground and also uses gravelly river edges during the Southern Hemisphere winter.
The Birds of Bolivia account gives a length of about 12.5–13 cm. A profile photograph taken at Colca Canyon, Peru, shows a gray-brown bird with a two-toned bill.
The account places it on sparse rocky slopes and beside lakes from semi-desert to semi-humid high-Andean terrain. It forages mostly on foot, alone or in pairs, taking arthropods; in the austral winter it also uses gravel bars and mudflats in dry Andean valleys.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
