The Giant Pitta is a large pitta of lowland forests in Southeast Asia. A Sabah bird guide describes males as blue and females as browner.
In the adult birds described for Sabah, males have blue upperparts with a white face and underside. Females have brown upperparts and a blue tail.
It walks on the forest floor and searches beneath leaves for food. Records include snails, earthworms, insects, frogs, and small snakes.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
