The Bar-bellied Pitta lives in lowland forest in Indochina and searches for food on the ground. It turns leaf litter while feeding on insects and earthworms.
The female has a blue-green head and dark green upperparts, with a bright blue-violet tail. Her chin and upper throat are white; most of the remaining underparts are barred yellow and black, with a dark blue center to the belly.
It eats termites, caterpillars, and earthworms, pecking at the ground and turning over leaves as it forages.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
