It occurs on New Guinea and in northern and eastern Australia. Checklists differ over which populations belong in this species, and plumage varies across its subspecies. It gleans insects from leaves in forests and wooded habitats.
The upperparts are olive-brown, though some subspecies are gray. The throat is paler than the rest of the underparts and slightly streaked.
It uses rainforest, mangroves, swamps, river-edge vegetation, and coastal woodland. It mainly gleans insects from foliage and also eats spiders and other small invertebrates.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
