A bustard of dry grasslands in eastern Africa. Its buff plumage is finely patterned, and the head and throat differ between males and females.
Males have pale orange-brown upperparts and a pale to grayish head and neck, with white spots on a black throat. Females are more buff and lack the male's grayish head and black throat pattern.
It lives in dry sandy grassland and scrub, where it eats insects, small molluscs, and seeds. It is sedentary rather than migratory.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
