Endemic to Puerto Rico, this bird occurs from lowlands to higher elevations. It is found in forests and plantations and may visit gardens where fruit grows.
The male has a black head with white stripes, an olive-green back, and a yellow breast with orange on the upper breast and hindneck. The female is olive-brown above and dull whitish with gray streaks below.
Fruit is its main food, but it also eats insects and small lizards. It is usually seen in pairs and sometimes in small groups. The account describes a plant-built cup nest with two to four light-blue eggs.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
