This rice rat occurs in southeastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, and northern Argentina. In a small study of southern Brazilian forest fragments, it was associated with places that had more trees.
Its back is mottled brown, while the underside looks pale. The tail is one colour and longer than the head and body together.
A study of two forest fragments in southern Brazil found it more often in microhabitats with more trees.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
