A barn owl endemic to the Andaman Islands. It is nocturnal, and a 2013 field paper recorded an individual roosting in a cave on an island in Middle Andaman.
It has no ear tufts. Its facial disc is reddish-brown with an orange-brown rim; the dark brown upperparts have pale spots, the breast is golden-rufous with dark spots, and the belly is whitish.
It is nocturnal and leaves its daytime roost at dusk. Its diet is little known, although rat and mouse bones have been found in pellets collected at roosts.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
