The American Barn Owl occurs across the Americas. It flies over open ground at night, searching for small mammals.
Its face is white and heart-shaped, its back buff to rusty brown, and its underside pale. The white face stands out against the warmer upperparts.
It uses its hearing to locate prey in open habitats such as grassland and farmland, hunting small mammals, especially rodents, at night.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
