A forest owl endemic to Sulawesi. Accounts describe a dark-edged facial disc and dark bars across its cinnamon-colored plumage.
The facial disc has a dark border; the cinnamon upperparts carry dark bars, and the underside is also cinnamon. The bill is pale and the eyes dark.
It has been recorded in primary and disturbed riverine, hill, and montane forests. Its diet is unknown, and the account notes only one presumed nest-hole record.
