The Satanic Nightjar is a nocturnal bird of Sulawesi. Males have a white throat band and females a pale buff band.
The upperparts are mottled and streaked gray-brown to pale tawny. The throat band is white in males and pale buff in females.
It roosts by day in small clearings near forest edges and nests on the forest floor.
At Anaso in Central Sulawesi in October 2009, a ground nest in a fern-and-moss forest clearing held one pale cream egg with fine speckling.
Adults approached at nesting sites may gape widely, exposing the bright pink mouth lining, and remain on the ground with the wings spread.
At the 2009 Anaso nest, the chick was down-covered in early November. By early December its feathers were well developed, while the throat, scapular and belly markings remained fainter than those of the adult beside it.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
