The Dusky Starfrontlet is a hummingbird recorded in high-elevation forest in western Colombia. Males and females differ in head and throat color, and the paper treats it as distinct from Coeligena bonapartei.
The adult male has a black head and back, a blue-green to golden-green forehead, a blue throat patch and a lime-green belly. The adult female has green markings on a buff throat and green breast and belly.
Fieldwork recorded an individual taking insects in elfin forest at 3,500 m.
