This mouse lemur is recorded in southeastern Madagascar. Recent reports confirm it on lower eastern slopes near Ambatotsirongorongo and at Petriky. The Bemanasy locality in its English name was mistakenly assigned in the original description.
The back and tail are uniformly grayish brown. The underside is grayish beige, with dark gray underfur.
A 2023/24 field report recorded the species on lower eastern slopes near Ambatotsirongorongo in degraded secondary forest and connective vegetation, outside intact forest.
