  • Bougainville Monkey-faced Fruit Bat Pteralopex anceps

This large fruit bat has been recorded on Bougainville and Choiseul. Detailed information about its ecology remains sparse.

  • Guadalcanal Monkey-faced Fruit Bat Pteralopex atrata

The black or blackish-brown fruit bat Pteralopex atrata is recorded mainly from lowland primary forest on Guadalcanal; its natural history remains poorly known.

  • Greater Monkey-Faced Bat Pteralopex flanneryi

This large fruit bat is recorded on islands in the northern Solomon archipelago, including parts of Papua New Guinea. It has a short black coat and sparsely furred forearms and lower legs. The 2005 revision notes that field information was limited and many records were museum specimens.

  • Montane Monkey-faced Fruit Bat Pteralopex pulchra

Its wings are mottled black and white, and its red eyes and yellowish belly contrast with its blackish back. The 1991 description reports one specimen collected in the mountains of Guadalcanal.

  • New Georgia Monkey-faced Fruit Bat Pteralopex taki

This flying fox occurs in the Solomon Islands. It depends on lowland primary forest, and museum material describes its fur as dull brown compared with the darker fur of related monkey-faced bats.
