This rabbit was reassessed using a neotype from Pernambuco. Older, broad South American records are not carried forward as confirmed range for this taxon; this account stays with documented coastal-forest evidence.
The neotype had an orange-rufous to deep mahogany-colored patch of fur on the nape.
The neotype was obtained from a forest remnant in Pernambuco's Atlantic coastal forest. The cited material does not establish the species' diet or activity schedule.
