This rabbit has a dark brown to black back and a pale underside. It occurs in the mountains of Costa Rica and western Panama; evening activity has been studied only in a preliminary survey at one reserve.
The back is mixed black and brown, the sides are blackish gray, and the underside is whitish. The throat is brown, and the small tail is described as dark.
A preliminary study at one Costa Rican reserve found many observations around twilight, with a peak near 18:00. The work was limited to one site and was explicitly preliminary.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
