Forbes' parakeet is a green parrot with a bright yellow forecrown and a red frontal band that stops before the eye. It is currently restricted to dense vegetation on Mangere and Little Mangere Islands.
It is a medium-sized, long-tailed parrot with broad, rounded wings and mainly emerald-green plumage. The forecrown is bright yellow, and the red frontal band does not reach the eye. Males are larger than females.
It eats seeds, flowers, and leaves; invertebrates become more important in spring. It also forages extensively on the ground in more open areas and defends the area around its nest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
