This bird walks through open, dry country to find food. Its sandy back and blue-gray hind-crown help identify it, and it eats mainly insects.
The upperparts range from sandy to rufous brown, and the hind-crown is blue-gray. A white line behind the eye meets at the nape and is bordered by narrow black bands.
It feeds mainly on insects, including harvester termites. It may move locally, but the details of those movements are poorly known.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
