This bird is recorded along rivers in New Guinea and New Britain. A survey on Fergusson Island documented the appearance and behaviour of 2 birds beside a fast-flowing stream.
The 2 birds recorded in the Fergusson Island survey had pale grey backs, white rumps, throats, breasts, and bellies, and black heads, wings, and tails. A white spot was noted on the forehead.
The survey recorded 2 birds calling frequently beside the fast Awalota River and observed them as a pair.
