The Shark Bay bandicoot is a small marsupial native to islands off Western Australia. It makes a nest beneath shrubs for daytime shelter.
Its pouch opens backwards, which helps keep soil out while it digs.
By day it makes a nest in a shallow hollow under a shrub, lining it with leaves and sticks. It uses strong hind legs to dig for insects, spiders, worms, seeds and roots.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
