The Mexican prairie dog is a squirrel relative that burrows in dry grasslands of northern Mexico. It comes above ground by day and lives in social groups.
It has a stocky body, short ears, legs and tail. Its grayish or yellow-brown coat is flecked with black hairs, its underside is paler and its tail tip is black.
It comes above ground to forage by day and uses burrows. Family groups form colonies, and it returns underground to cool off on hot days.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
