This small bird is recorded in Bolivia's Amazonian regions and on lower eastern Andean slopes. It uses grassy and shrubby areas near rivers and roads and forages on the ground.
The Bolivia account says the amount of yellow on an adult's face varies. Juveniles have much less yellow, fine streaks on the breast, and browner, duller plumage than adults.
It occurs in grassy or shrubby places beside rivers and roads, in clearings, pastures, and small towns. It is usually alone or in pairs and forages on the ground by hopping or walking.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
