A tyrant flycatcher of forest edges and scrub on the eastern Andean slope. Adult males and females have markedly different plumage.
The adult male is slate gray, including a bluish-gray bill. The female is brown above and gray-brown below, with fine breast streaks and rufous bars on the wings.
It searches for food along humid montane-forest edges and in adjacent scrub.
