This parakeet occurs in the hills of northern Venezuela, in humid and wet forest and at forest edges. It feeds at different levels of the canopy, often in flocks.
The face is brownish maroon, the ear coverts off-white, and the crown through the sides of the neck blue-green. The breast is barred, and the centre of the abdomen and bend of the wing are red.
The account places it in humid and wet forest and hilly forest edges. It is resident with seasonal movements in response to food and breeding, and is seen mostly in flocks of up to 15, feeding at all canopy levels.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
