This bat is known from Pemba Island, Tanzania. The described specimens had white spots on the back, but their arrangement varied among individuals. The original account records bats in a hospital attic.
The back is chocolate brown, with clusters of white hairs that appear as small spots. Their placement varied among specimens; the belly ranged from off-white to yellowish white.
At Kipangani village on Pemba, the holotype was caught by hand in a hospital attic, and other specimens were caught as bats emerged from the roof. This is a recorded roost setting, not evidence that the species uses only buildings.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
