MDD lists Ansorge's Free-tailed Bat as Mops ansorgei. It is associated with dry woodland savanna, often near rugged hills and rocky cliffs in the southern African assessment region.
It has short chocolate-brown fur on the back, lighter brown fur below with pale hair tips, and a dark throat. The wings are semi-translucent and range from light reddish brown to grey; the band joining the ears is comparatively subtle.
It is a fast, high-flying insect eater. Natural roosts include narrow cracks in cliff rock; it also uses roofs, buildings, mine passages and bridge joints. It roosts communally, usually in small to medium groups.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
