This small chevrotain is endemic to Sri Lanka. It has warm ochre-brown fur with yellow spots and stripes, and is recorded from wet-zone forests as well as paddies, plantations, and gardens.
Its coat is warm ochre-brown, with yellowish rather than white spots and stripes. The flanks have longitudinal stripes and rows of spots; the account notes a white median strip on the underside.
In Sri Lanka’s Wet Zone it is recorded in forest, forested grassland, and places with lakes or rivers. The account also reports it in secondary forest, urban scrub, rice paddies, rubber plantations, and home gardens, and says it appears more abundant in secondary than primary forest.
