This patas monkey remains in north-central Tanzania. In its 2020 assessment, IUCN treated it as a separate species and reported severe decline and a fragmented range.
The IUCN taxonomic account lists a black nose, no white moustache, a pale red crown, a white neck, and dark gray upper limbs as distinguishing features.
A 2009 study in Tanzania described the monkey as semiterrestrial and associated mainly with Acacia woodland. Records at that time were sparse and spread at low density, making animals difficult to detect.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
