The Banka Island Treeshrew is restricted to Bangka Island, Indonesia. In a 2011 survey, an animal identified under the older name Tupaia glis was captured in degraded secondary forest at Bukit Perak Estate.
It has a reddish-brown forebody, a strongly gray rear half and tail, a grizzled-brown face, a tan-to-ivory underside, and shoulder markings.
In August 2011, a field-identified Tupaia glis was captured on trap line PR1108AA at Bukit Perak Estate, Bangka. The line was in severely degraded secondary forest, with a canopy about 7 m high, dense understory, and scattered emergent trees.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
