Adults are black with a white breast patch and a notched tail.
In Peru, it is rarely recorded on the eastern Andean slope at 350–1,600 m; sightings also extend into the Amazonian lowlands.
In Colombia it was observed in flocks of 20–25, sometimes flying with White-collared, Chestnut-collared and other swifts.
An adult female collected in Cauca, Colombia, had a white breast patch extending as a stripe down the middle of the abdomen.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
