This cotinga occurs in montane forest in Colombia and Venezuela. A Colombian regional account describes a green-backed male with a yellow chest and a female with yellow belly spots.
For the regional form labeled “ssp.” by CVC, the male is green above, including the head, with a bright yellow throat and chest and a narrow yellow neck band. The female is green with yellow spots on the belly.
A CVC regional account says this local form spends more time inside the forest and near the ground. A separate species page classifies it as mainly fruit-eating.
