The Fiery-throated Fruiteater has a green body and a red throat in males and feeds on fruit in wet forests on the eastern Andes.
The male has a green head and back with a bright red throat and upper breast. The female has a deep green breast and a belly with mixed green and yellow coloring.
In Colombia it feeds on fruit in humid forest at about 700–1,600 m, alone or in pairs and sometimes in mixed flocks. It searches for food in both the canopy and understory.
The bill is salmon-coloured in the male and blackish in the female; the legs are orange.
