The Sulawesi harpy fruit bat is a fruit-eating bat endemic to Sulawesi and nearby Buton. It appears to favor higher-quality forest, though it has also been recorded in cocoa plantations.
The original description reported that the Sulawesi adult type specimen was larger in external dimensions than H. whiteheadi. It found no clear overall color difference, but noted that the hairs were lighter at the base than at the tip in that specimen.
It eats fruit and has been recorded across elevations and forest types. The IUCN account notes an apparent association with higher-quality forest as well as records from cocoa plantations; roost requirements remain unknown.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
