The Tambourine Dove is a shy dove of woodland and thickets in sub-Saharan Africa and the Comoros. It often forages on the ground and is usually seen alone or in pairs.
It has a dark brown back and pale face and underparts, with rufous patches visible in flight. The male’s underside is white, while the female’s is bluish gray; both have a red bill.
It gathers seeds and fruits from the forest floor and also eats insects and small mollusks. It is wary and quickly disappears back into cover when disturbed.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
