This Andean antpitta was raised from a subspecies of Rufous Antpitta to a separate species in a 2020 taxonomic study. It occurs in high-elevation Bolivia; a specialist species account reports birds close to the ground in forest and Chusquea thickets.
The upperparts are dark reddish yellow-brown. The underparts are paler, with pale feather edges and fine streaks on the belly; a pale eye-ring is present.
The Birds of Bolivia account places it in high-elevation cloud and elfin forest, including Chusquea thickets, and describes shy birds seen alone or in pairs low in the understory or near the ground.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
