This small vole occurs from eastern Turkey into the Caucasus. It has been studied in forest belts and shares the fossorial adaptations reported for pine voles.
Pine voles have short, dense fur, small eyes, and short ears hidden in the fur. The monograph relates these traits to their tendency toward a fossorial life.
In the Central North Caucasus population studied, breeding continued from spring into summer, and overwintered females were recorded with 3 litters.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
