The golden lion tamarin is a small monkey recognized by its golden mane framing the face. It searches for fruit and insects in the humid forests of southeastern Brazil.
Its mane covers the ears and frames a dark, almost bare face. Its hands and feet are narrow, its canine teeth are long and its incisors are short.
It eats fruit, insects and small invertebrates. Its long fingers probe under bark, leaves and epiphytes for hidden food, and it sleeps in tree holes at night.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
