This rosefinch occurs in the highlands of Mongolia and northern China. It uses shrubland and alpine grassland, and the Chinese account says it descends to lower elevations in winter.
A medium-sized rosefinch, it has finer and paler streaks above and fewer flank streaks than the similar Himalayan Beautiful Rosefinch. Its tail is shorter and more squared at the tip.
It uses highland and plateau scrub, low shrubs, alpine meadow and scree. The Chinese account says it favours juniper scrub with rhododendrons and moves lower in winter.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
