This small bird is recorded in scattered grasslands of southeastern South America. Its ochre chest is streaked, and it searches for insects on the ground.
It is 13.5–15 cm long. Bold black streaks cover its upperparts and form a broad band across the ochre breast. A black spot marks the cheek, and a pale buff line passes above the eye.
It searches for insects while walking on the ground. Local movements have also been reported in parts of Brazil.
In Argentina, a female left a ground nest beside a grass tussock in October; the nest contained four eggs that were already being incubated.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
