This honeyeater lives in northeastern Australia. Field reports describe feeding at flowering eucalyptus and banksia in two Queensland locations.
Adults have a grey-black head and black-brown back, with a broad yellow triangular tuft of feathers on the ear-coverts.
Field observers recorded birds feeding at flowering Scarlet Gum in sandstone escarpment woodland near Jowalbinna, and at tropical Banksia in low tea-tree woodland near Mount Jack.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
