This dark-plumaged honeyeater has a short, white beard-like throat tuft. It lives in high mountains of western New Guinea among trees and shrubs.
The plumage is sooty dark. A short beard-like tuft of white throat feathers has a black centre; the skin behind the eye is yellow and the tail tip is white.
It eats fruit, seeds, insects, and nectar. It forages in shrubs and ground-level thickets, and quickly hops into cover when disturbed.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
